Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on Thursday, drawing birthday greetings from across the political spectrum and sparking a wave of nationwide celebrations that blended spiritual rituals, public service drives, and political outreach

Leaders from the ruling National Democratic Alliance and the opposition extended warm wishes. President Droupadi Murmu praised Modi for setting “new benchmarks of good governance” and giving “unprecedented momentum and a new direction to inclusive development” while blending cultural pride with modern progress. Home Minister Amit Shah described his life as “an epic tale of penance, sacrifice and unwavering resolve.” Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan highlighted India’s economic growth and poverty reduction under his leadership.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called him the “world’s most popular leader” and the architect of “New India.” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also wished the Prime Minister good health and a long life. The Bharatiya Janata Party marked the occasion by launching a month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” that runs until October 17, observing the birthday as “Seva Diwas.” The campaign features blood donation camps, medical and cleanliness drives, tree plantation, de-addiction awareness, and other public-service activities at the booth level across the country.

Twin motorcycle yatras linking Vadnagar, Modi’s birthplace, with Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, were flagged off—one by Shah from Gujarat and the other by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Uttar Pradesh. The journeys, involving hundreds of young participants, are scheduled to cover tens of thousands of kilometres through multiple states and conclude on October 7. Cultural and spiritual events dominated the day’s programme. In Gujarat, organisers reported the lighting of more than 88 lakh earthen lamps at over 18,500 locations under the “Aashirvad no Divdo” initiative.

In Madhya Pradesh, over 25 lakh diyas illuminated the Shipra ghats and Mahakal Corridor in Ujjain. In Varanasi, 76 young priests performed special prayers and a milk abhishek of the Ganga, seeking the Prime Minister’s good health and longevity. Delhi planned the lighting of 1.25 lakh lamps at Vijay Chowk and Kartavya Path. The BJP had earlier ushered in the birthday with a midnight countdown video set to the song “Swag Se Swagat.” Modi himself spent part of the day inaugurating SEMICON India 2026 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi. Delegates greeted him with applause and shouts of “Happy Birthday” as he took the stage. He acknowledged the wishes with folded hands before addressing the gathering on India’s semiconductor ambitions, 

stressing the country’s progress toward becoming a trusted global manufacturing destination. In a social media post later, he shared a short video from the event with the caption “Of birthdays and same-to-yous…” The celebrations underscored both the personal milestone and the political symbolism of a quarter-century in power. Supporters framed the day as a tribute to service and development, while the scale of the organised programmes reflected the BJP’s organisational strength. As lamps flickered across states and service camps opened, the 76th birthday of the Prime Minister became another chapter in a public life that has already spanned more than two decades at the highest levels of Indian politics.
