Miss Asia International and Telangana Ikat Brand Ambassador Rashmi Thakur received a grand welcome at Hyderabad International Airport on Friday after returning from the 79th Festival de Cannes in France, where she showcased the Pochampally Ikat handloom on the global stage for the first time.
The welcome ceremony was organized by the Pochampally Handloom Tie & Dye Silk Sarees Manufacturer’s and Pochampally Production Handlooms and Handicrafts Producer Company Limited under the leadership of Tadaka Ramesh, Chairman of the trust and CEO of the Producer Company.
At Cannes, Rashmi Thakur walked the international red carpet in a couture ensemble crafted from authentic Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Pochampally Ikat, handwoven by Telangana’s master weavers. The ensemble, themed “Pochampally to Cannes,” introduced the richness of Telangana handloom artistry to a global audience. Speaking on the occasion, Rashmi Thakur described the welcome as belonging to “every weaver of Pochampally” whose artistry and dedication kept this heritage alive for generations. CEO of the Producer Company Tadaka Ramesh described the recognition as a matter of pride for Telangana’s weavers and for India’s handloom sector.
Rashmi Thakur also expressed gratitude to the Government of India, Development Commissioner of Handlooms of Government of Telangana, Weavers Service Centre Hyderabad and the Pochampally Producer Company Ltd. for supporting and encouraging the initiative. The representation at Cannes is expected to create greater awareness and global appreciation for Pochampally Ikat and Telangana’s weaving heritage.
