The Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) has expressed satisfaction over the progress of construction works at the Polavaram Irrigation Project following a high-level site inspection on Wednesday.

A PPA delegation led by Chief Executive Officer Yogesh Paithankar reviewed the ongoing works during an extensive visit from 11 am to 2.30 pm. The team included Member Secretary M. Raghuram, Chief Engineers C.V. Subbaiah (Power) and M. Ramesh Kumar (P&D), and Director K. Shankar.

As this marked Mr. Paithankar’s first site visit after assuming charge, he personally inspected major project components, sought clarifications from officials, and reviewed progress in detail. The delegation was briefed by Water Resources Department Engineer-in-Chief K. Narasimha Murthy and MEIL Chief Operating Officer A.N.V. Satish Babu.

The PPA team inspected key structures including the spillway, diaphragm wall, Gap-1 and Gap-2, upstream and downstream cofferdams, and the hydropower station being executed by Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL). Officials explained that works are progressing as per targets fixed by the Central Water Resources Ministry, PPA, and the State Government.

Authorities informed the delegation that detailed planning is underway to ensure completion of the project by 2027, ahead of the Godavari Pushkarams.

Emphasising the project’s national importance, Mr. Paithankar stated that the Central Government is giving top priority to Polavaram, and directed THE officials and executing agencies to ensure timely completion without delays, strictly adhering to approved schedules and action plans.
