Hyderabad City Cyber Crime Police have taken down 124 social media profiles involved in illegal online betting and gaming promotions, a major step to curb cyber gambling in the city. Over the past month, these profiles were found running 539 paid ads promoting betting and gaming apps targeting Indian users, especially youth, with promises of easy money, bonuses, assured returns, and referral commissions.

All 124 profiles have been reported to the platforms and removed to prevent further dissemination. Investigations are ongoing to trace individuals and financial channels behind these operations, with legal action to follow under relevant laws.

Authorities warned that online betting and gambling are prohibited in Telangana. Users of unauthorized platforms risk financial loss, data theft, and misuse of personal information, while promoters or sharers of such links may also face legal consequences.

The Cyber Crime Police urged the public not to download or register on illegal betting apps, avoid sharing referral links, and immediately report suspicious ads or profiles to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station or via the official portal at www.cybercrime.gov.in or toll-free 1930. Parents are advised to guide children on the legal and financial risks of online betting.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Unit reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe online environment and cautioned citizens to stay vigilant while engaging in online activities.
