District Collector Rahul Sharma has stated that providing balanced and nutritious food to children below five years of age to strengthen their early childhood is the primary objective of anganwadi centres.

As part of the Women’s Week celebrations being held under the 99-day “Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika” initiative, the Women & Child Welfare Department organized a special food stall on the first day (Monday) at the IDOC office premises with the slogan “Say No to Junk Food”. The stall displayed a variety of dishes prepared using locally available vegetables, leafy greens, and other nutritious ingredients.

Staff explained the nutritional value of each dish to visitors. District Collector Rahul Sharma visited the stall and enquired in detail about the preparation methods and nutritional benefits of the displayed items. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that Women’s Week is being observed from today till May 30 under the slogan “Women’s Empowerment – Telangana Progress”. He emphasized that providing quality, balanced nutrition to children is essential for their physical and mental development.

He advised parents not to give junk food available in markets to young children and instead provide fresh, locally available vegetables, leafy greens, and grains. He noted that Anganwadi Centres are playing a key role in this direction.

The Collector added that various awareness programs for women and children are being organized during Women’s Week. He also mentioned that cooking competitions were held for Anganwadi workers, teachers, and parents. Additional Collector Vijayalakshmi, District Women & Child Welfare Officer Malleshwari, anganwadi supervisors, teachers, helpers and others participated in the program.
