District Collector Chahat Baj Pai has directed Anganwadi teachers to create awareness among pregnant women on the importance of taking proper nutritious food. As part of Women’s Week celebrations being held from May 25 to 30 under the 99-day “Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika” initiative, the District Women & Child Welfare Department organized a nutrition mela, cooking competition and blood tests for pregnant women on Monday at the Conference Hall of the Hanumakonda district collectorate.
Speaking as the chief guest, District Collector Chahat Baj Pai stressed the need for close coordination between the Women & Child Welfare Department and the Medical & Health Department to make the programs successful. She asked Anganwadi teachers to educate pregnant women on consuming balanced and nutritious food while avoiding junk food. She advised promoting home-cooked meals and including more protein-rich foods in the daily diet.
The Collector also stated that children below two years should not be given oil, salt or sugar, and informed that anganwadi centers are providing nutritious food to children every day. District Welfare Officer Vishwaja spoke on the occasion and emphasized that every individual should have awareness about balanced diet and include a variety of food items in their daily meals.
District Medical & Health Officer Dr. Appayya advised that women should take proper health precautions from the time of conception till delivery. He said that timely vaccination of pregnant women will help build immunity in the newborn child. During the program, nutritious dishes prepared by various anganwadi centers were displayed. The Collector inspected the items and judged the cooking competition. Blood tests were also conducted for pregnant women, and health tips were provided to them.
