In honour of theatre thespian Begum Razia Baig, who the city lost last year, Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation started a new series of performing arts sessions featuring women.
Titled 'Remembering Razia Baig', this unique initiative is set to bring accomplished and innovative women from stage and screen even fashion and cuisine centre stage and inspire gen-x. The first evening in this series featured the launch of singer-actress-writer Ila Arun's autobiography 'Parde ke Peechchey', co-authored by eminent actor-writer Anjula Bedi.
The launch was preceded by a rousing speech by Dr. J Geetha Reddy, former Minister for Tourism, Culture and Industries, who lauded the Foundation and its Founder-Director Mohammad Ali Baig for this visionary work in the name of his mother. She appreciated Razia Baig for coming out of the comfort of old Hyderabadi haveli to promote theatre for fifty years.
Dr. Reddy released 'Parde ke Peechchey' amidst applause. As Mohammad Ali Baig mentioned, "Dr. Geeta Reddy, with five successive terms in state cabinet and decades of work for the society was an apt choice to release the book of an actor with five decades in theatre, TV and cinema".
To a packed audience at Hotel Taj Deccan, Noor Baig read out the 'Curtain Raiser'. The multi-faceted Ila Arun regaled audiences with humorous anecdotes while Anjula Bedi read excerpts from Ila Arun's debut film with late Shyam Benegal and reiterated the actress' Hyderabadi connection.
Theatre revivalist Mohammad Ali Baig commented that the evening was a special one not just as a tribute to his mother but as a first step towards the Foundation’s goal of amplifying women's voices in the performing arts.
