Qatar’s government is looking at holding Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responsible for breaking international law by attacking Hamas leaders in Doha on Tuesday.
Netanyahu sais Israel was “fully justified” as it targeted Hamas leaders who organised the October 7, 2023, attack. Hamas said the attack killed six people, but claims none of its leaders died.
Also, there were reports in Yemen of more Israeli strikes on the capital, Sanaa.
Meanwhile, the European Commission president said on Wednesday she would seek sanctions and a partial trade suspension against Israel over the war in Gaza, an announcement that marked a sharp turnaround for Ursula von der Leyen, a longtime Netanyahu supporter. The 27-nation EU is deeply divided in its approach to Israel and the Palestinians, and it is unclear whether a majority will be found to endorse the sanctions and trade measures.
Von der Leyen added the commission “will set up a Palestine donor group next month,” part of which will focus on Gaza's future reconstruction.
She said the events in Gaza and the suffering of children and families “has shaken the conscience of the world.”
“Man-made famine can never be a weapon of war. For the sake of the children, for the sake of humanity. This must stop,” Von der Leyen said on Wednesday, to applause in the European Parliament at its meeting in Strasbourg, France.
Von der Leyen said she plans to freeze support to Israel by the EU's executive branch, which would not require the bloc's approval.
Gaza's Health Ministry said bodies of 41 people killed by Israeli strikes have been brought to hospitals in Gaza over 24 hours. Also, 12 people were killed while seeking aid.
The Israeli military said it struck another high-rise in Gaza City, claiming it was being used for Hamas for surveillance of Israeli troops.
British PM Sir Keir Starmer condemned the Doha attack, during a meeting with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte at Downing Street, a readout said. He stressed on the importance of preventing escalation in the region.
The unilateral action directed by PM Benjamin Netanyahu did not advance Israel or America's goals. I view Qatar as a strong ally and friend of the US, and feel very badly about the location of the attack.

Spoke with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and expressed deep concern at the attacks in Doha. India condemns the violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly State of Qatar. We support resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy, and avoiding escalation. India stands firmly in support of peace and stability in the region, and against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
