R-Day celebrated at Varanasi

27-01-2026 12:00:00 AM

The Republic Day celebrations took place today at Shankaracharya Ghat in Varanasi, where devotees and students marked the occasion with patriotic fervor along the banks of the Ganges. Students from Jagadgurukulam transformed themselves into living representations of the Indian national flag, the Tiranga, as part of the "Ganga Tiranga" program. The event featured a flag hoisting ceremony led by Poojya Jyotishpeethadheeshwar Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Maharaj, who performed the traditional worship of the flag before it was unfurled.

Ramesh Upadhyay conducted the flag hoisting and emphasized in his address that the protection of the nation and Sanatan Dharma rests with the four Shankaracharyas. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding the cow, describing it as central to preserving Sanatan Dharma. Brahmachari Paramatmanand Ji reflected on the significance of Republic Day, urging introspection about whether modern India aligns with the vision envisioned by the freedom fighters during the independence struggle.

Cultural performances added vibrancy to the occasion, with Ankita Patel singing Vande Mataram and the national anthem. Media in-charge Sanjay Pandey, speaking on behalf of Shankaracharya Maharaj, noted that this "Ganga Tiranga" initiative has become an annual tradition in Kashi. It began earlier when, under the divine presence of Shankaracharya Shri Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Maharaj, a record-breaking large flag was hoisted at Dashashwamedh Ghat on Independence Day.

This gathering blended patriotism, spirituality, and cultural heritage on the sacred ghats of Varanasi, reinforcing the connection between national pride and Sanatan traditions.
