Telangana universities aim to top globally

Telangana’s education department has placed special focus on universities across the state, aiming to make them recognized nationally and internationally. The goal is to ensure that by 2047, these universities stand among the top institutions globally. The focus is not limited to teaching and curriculum alone. Universities are being encouraged to adopt modern technologies and emphasize research alongside academics. Professors and staff are urged to go beyond conventional classroom methods and ensure that universities contribute to real-world solutions.

The education department has emphasized that universities should not just award degrees but prepare students for employment and entrepreneurship. Faculty will undergo regular training to stay updated with modern teaching methods and AI applications. University laboratories will be opened to other universities and higher education institutions, benefiting a wider student community. To ensure accountability, each university will submit quarterly reports detailing its activities, course updates, achievements, and research outcomes. The initiative also aims to improve rankings in both the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) and QS international rankings.

However, experts point out that infrastructure and faculty shortages remain major hurdles. Many universities lack heads or permanent staff, with nearly 70–80% of faculty positions vacant. Contract teachers are filling the gaps, raising questions about how universities can realistically focus on research under these conditions. Despite these challenges, the education department’s roadmap aims to transform Telangana universities into globally recognized centers of learning and innovation by 2047, ensuring students receive high-quality education and practical skills.
