Doctors at Medicover Hospitals have reconstructed a fully lost penis, restoring normalcy and dignity to a 19-year-old patient from Somalia. This marks the first-ever procedure of its kind in Telangana, underscoring Medicover Hospitals' expertise in advanced reconstructive and microsurgical procedures.
The patient had tragically lost his penis at the age of four due to a severe infection following circumcision, leading to years of emotional distress, social stigma, and functional challenges. After failed attempts to find a solution in multiple countries, he sought treatment at Medicover Hospitals, Hyderabad, where a team of experts, including Senior Consultant Urologist and Andrologist Dr A V Ravi Kumar and Consultant Plastic Surgeon Dr Dasari Madhu Vinay Kumar, meticulously planned and executed a highly complex reconstructive procedure.
The 10-hour-long micro vascular surgery involved reconstructing the penis using a radial artery forearm flap, allowing the patient to regain the ability to urinate normally. Dr A V Ravi Kumar confirmed that the patient is now fully capable of normal urination, while Dr Dasari Madhu Vinay Kumar explained that the patient has successfully regained penile sensations and has undergone a penile implant, enabling him to lead a normal sexual life.
Expressing his gratitude, the patient said, "For years, I lived in emotional distress, feeling incomplete. Today, I have regained my identity, confidence, and a chance to lead a normal life. I am deeply thankful to Medicover Hospitals for making this possible. I look forward to starting a new chapter, including marriage."
