To promote health and entrepreneurship, a total 100 millet stores will be launched simultaneously by 100 aspiring entrepreneurs from lower-income backgrounds on February 15, 2025 at M Banquet halls, in Madhapur. Srinivas Sarakadam, a renowned business mentor and digital marketing trainer from the Telugu states, said this initiative is helping individuals establish sustainable businesses while bringing millet-based nutrition to the masses.
This initiative is part of the Millets National Portal (www.millets.news), founded by Sarakadam in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration of the International Year of Millets 2023. The portal, officially inaugurated by Dr C Tara Satyavathi, Director of the Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad, has been instrumental in building a structured millet-based economy across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
He has worked closely with manufacturers across India to introduce 50 high-quality millet products into the market. These will now be accessible through the newly launched stores, making millet-based nutrition more convenient and affordable.
One of the key successes of this initiative is enabling lower-income individuals to become entrepreneurs with a structured and cost-optimized business model. Extensive efforts have been made to bring down the initial investment required for setting up a millet store. Entrepreneurs are now able to start their business with a minimal investment of Rs 85,000, which covers 50 millet products, a billing machine, a TV setup for displaying health awareness content, banners, brochures, a website, a health check-up kit, and branding materials.
This optimization has ensured that store owners receive a fully equipped business setup while keeping costs affordable. The structured approach provided by millets. This has not only helped these entrepreneurs start their journey with confidence but also positioned them as key contributors to the growing millet ecosystem.
To further enhance the role of these millet stores in community health, Sarakadam has established the Health and Nutrition Ambassadors (HNA) Council, which currently consists of 50 doctors and aims to expand to 1,000 members by the end of 2025. The council will work alongside millet store owners to offer personalized dietary advice on conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, weight management, arthritis, cancer, reproductive health, and cardiovascular diseases.
