A local court in Vijayawada on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of former Andhra Pradesh Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu until May 22, in connection with the sensational APPSC Group-1 exam evaluation scam. Following the extension, Anjaneyulu is expected to be transferred to the Vijayawada jail shortly.
Anjaneyulu, already under arrest in a separate case involving alleged harassment of actress Kadambari Jethwani, has now been formally taken into custody under a prisoner transit (PT) warrant for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore scam related to irregularities in the evaluation process of Group-1 main exam answer scripts conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).
According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is probing the case, the alleged scam took place during Anjaneyulu’s tenure as APPSC Secretary between 2018 and 2019. Investigators allege that despite the evaluation process being conducted digitally, official records were manipulated to show that manual evaluation had taken place. This false documentation allegedly enabled the siphoning off of crores of rupees in government funds.
