Traffic police cites accidents as reason to keep it closed

Metro India News | Hyderabad

The Tarnaka junction is one of the most important junctions in the Secunderabad area as commuters from Lalapet and beyond and ones coming from Osmania University use. It was closed for more than a decade and commuters had to travel almost half-a-km and take a U turn.

The barricades were removed temporarily and it was to be thrown open on May 2 but the trial has been extended after traffic police reported that when open it results in accidents.

The Nallakunta Traffic Police is apprehensive and according to reliable sources, the department is still not decided. Citizens however want the junction to open. Martin, a resident of Lalaguda and a cyclist says, “It is agonising to travel all the way and take a U turn. The police can station staff and open the junction if they feel there is a rise in accidents.”

What is surprising is the fact that opinion is divided with 49 % want it to be closed according to a social media poll undertaken by Traffic Police. The junction is a hot spot and is on the way to Uppal Cricket Stadium. Whenever there are IPL matches, it is chaotic say traffic police. What is more! There are several schools and scientific institutions such as CCMB, NIN, Survey of India on the route and there is a lot of traffic during school and office hours.
