Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday evening and discussed several key issues, including the recent developments relating to Maoist activities and possible surrenders of senior leaders.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Telangana Director General of Police Jitender Shivdhar Reddy and Inspector General Sumati during the meeting. Sources said the discussions largely focused on the surrender of Maoists and the evolving security situation. Revanth Reddy is understood to have briefed the Union Home Minister about the willingness of some senior Maoist leaders to surrender.

The issues reportedly raised by Devuji during his recent meeting with the Chief Minister also figured in the discussions. The proposed “Maoist Free India” conference scheduled to be held on March 31 also came up for discussion, with Telangana expected to play an active role in the nationwide efforts to eliminate Left wing extremism. Meanwhile, political circles in the State are abuzz with speculation over the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Telangana. Senior advocate and Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi is almost certain to be nominated for one of the seats, while Congress leader Vem Narender Reddy is emerging as the frontrunner for the second seat.
