The Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi after the conclusion of the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting. The 15-minutes meeting, held with a prior appointment, focused on seeking Central Government support for transformative infrastructure and strategic development initiatives vital to Telangana’s growth.
In a tweet posted on his official X handle, CM Revanth Reddy highlighted that the discussion centered on the urgent need for rapid urban transformation and catalyzing game-changing projects in Telangana. Among the top priorities discussed were the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, the Regional Ring Road (RRR), semiconductor manufacturing support, and defence sector development, he pointed out.
The CM underscored the dire need to expand Hyderabad Metro beyond its current 69 km network, which has remained stagnant over the last decade. He stated that Telangana’s Congress government has proposed a 76.4 km expansion under Phase-II, comprising five new corridors at an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore. The project will be a Joint Venture with the Centre contributing 18% (Rs 4,230 crore), the State 30% (Rs 7,313 crore), and the remainder through debt financing.
CM urged the Prime Minister to instruct the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to expedite the project and secure Cabinet approval, enabling Hyderabad to achieve the next level of metro connectivity. The CM pressed for immediate financial and Cabinet approval of the RRR project, which is divided into Northern and Southern arcs. While land acquisition for the Northern arc is near completion with tenders already invited, he emphasized the importance of taking up both arcs simultaneously to control land costs and achieve full utility. Telangana is committed to sharing 50% of the land acquisition cost for both sections, he told Modi.
Complementing the road project, Revanth proposed a 370-km Regional Ring Railway (RRR-2) to be developed alongside the RRR. This strategic railway infrastructure would significantly enhance regional connectivity, decongest urban freight corridors, and open up rural Telangana for industrial and economic activity.
To further support Telangana’s pharma and industrial base, Revanth requested Centre’s approval for a Greenfield Highway and parallel Railway line connecting the Telangana Dry Port to the Bandar Seaport in Andhra Pradesh. He stated that this corridor would reduce freight costs, enhance export potential, and give a competitive edge to Telangana’s 35% share in India’s pharmaceutical production.
Reiterating Telangana’s alignment with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the CM sought the Prime Minister’s intervention in approving the State’s ISM project proposal. Telangana, with its robust R&D ecosystem (featuring AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA) and manufacturing presence (Foxconn, Kaynes), is poised to become a national semiconductor hub. Approval of the ISM project will boost investor confidence, generate high-value jobs, and contribute to India’s $500 billion electronics production target.
Highlighting Hyderabad’s emergence as the largest Make in India hub for aerospace and defence, CM Revanth Reddy requested fast-tracked approvals for Defence JVs and offsets. He also proposed official notification of a Hyderabad-Bangalore Defence Corridor for parity with other states, Incentives for MSMEs involved in defence manufacturing, including PLI schemes, hosting of the next DefExpo in Hyderabad, recognizing the city’s leadership in the sector.
Revanth Reddy exuded confidence in a positive response from the Prime Minister, noting that these projects are not only vital for Telangana’s progress but also for advancing India’s national strategic and economic goals.
