Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday announced that the State government will nominate Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) founder Prof. M. Kodandaram to the Legislative Council within the next 15 days. The announcement was made during his address at Osmania University’s Tagore Auditorium, with Prof. Kodandaram present in the audience.
Revanth Reddy described the move as recognition of Prof. Kodandaram’s pivotal role in the Telangana statehood movement and his consistent advocacy for democratic values. He said the appointment would strengthen civil society’s voice and reinforce the government’s commitment to participatory and transparent governance.
In a sharp attack on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Chief Minister accused the party of conspiring to oust Prof. Kodandaram from the MLC position under Governor's quota through legal and political maneuvering. He alleged that the BRS leadership, including former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao, had undermined democratic institutions and even resorted to harassment, citing an incident where police broke into Kodandaram’s residence during the agitation years.
“The same party that cornered and humiliated Kodandaram wants to keep all posts for its own family members-from CM to MLA to MLC,” Revanth Reddy charged. He added that the Congress government is determined to expose and counter BRS misinformation campaigns and will continue to uphold the values of the Telangana movement.
