State BC, EWS Welfare, Handloom and Textiles Minister S. Savita said on Saturday that Sardar Gouthu Lachanna dedicated his entire life striving for the uplifment of the weaker sections of the society. Freedom fighter Gouthu Lachanna's 116th birth anniversary program was organized as an official state event by the BC Welfare Department at Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram in Vijayawada. Minister S. Savita who was the chief guest at the event, said that inspired by Sardar Gouthu Lachanna, many initiatives have been taken up for the welfare of BCs by the state government.
She said that very soon the government will launch Adarana 3.0 program to provide latest tools to artisans for the purpose of modernization.Agriculture Minister Atchannaidu said that his family had a very close relation with that of Sardar Gouthu Lachanna. Minister Atchannaidu also recalled that in 2018 it was the TDP government which named the Thotapalli project after Gouthu Lachanna. Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra recalled how the previous YSRCP government harassed the family members of Gouthu Lachanna and reiterated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of OBCs.
Party AP President Palla Srinivasa Rao said that people will remember those who worked for the society and Gouthu Lachannawas one such leader. Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad said that the program being consudcted as an official event is a testimony to the state government's sincerity towards the BCs. He said that 10 per cent of the liquor shops have been allotted to toddy tappers community.
Gouthu Lachanna's granddaughter and MLA Gouthu Sirisha said that the leaders who fought people's struggles will remain etched in the hearts of the people forever. “As a child, I grew up with my grandfather. His ideals and thoughts will have an impact on me.” she recalled.
