A young man who suffered a stroke hours after a minor scooty accident made a remarkable recovery following timely treatment at Medicover Hospitals, Financial District.
The incident occurred when a scooty’s rear-view mirror struck the side of his neck during the day. Believing it to be a minor injury, he returned home after experiencing only mild discomfort.
However, around midnight, he suddenly developed weakness on the right side of his body, slurred speech, and signs of paralysis. His family immediately rushed him to the hospital, where the stroke response team initiated emergency treatment.
Advanced MRI scans confirmed an acute stroke, while vascular imaging revealed a blockage in the left carotid artery, a major blood vessel supplying blood to the brain. Further angiography showed that the neck injury had caused a tear in the artery, leading to clot formation and blockage of blood flow.
A team led by Dr. Anirudh Rao Deshmukh, Senior Interventional Neurologist and Stroke Specialist, performed an emergency endovascular procedure. Doctors successfully removed the clot and placed two stents to repair the damaged artery and restore blood circulation.
The patient showed dramatic improvement within a day. His speech improved significantly, weakness subsided, and he was able to walk independently.
Doctors said the case highlights how even minor neck injuries can sometimes lead to serious complications such as stroke, stressing the importance of seeking immediate medical attention when symptoms appear.
