Motorists should keep these point in mind while riding:
When a rider skids due to oil residue on road, it is termed as unfortunate but when one skids due to reckless riding it is categorized as self-skid accidents. The latter is on the rise resulting in serious injuries and sometimes even fatalities. In the Rachakonda Commissionerate, the number of self-skid accidents has been on the rise this year.
According to Rachakonda police, a total 94 accidents were reported due to self-skid (63 deaths and 77 injured) in the year of 2023. Total 96 accidents reported due to self-skid (77 deaths and 53 injured) in the year of 2024. Whereas this year till June, 140 accidents were reported due to self-skid (112 deaths and 45 injured). This number shows a sharp rise in accidents due to self-skid.
Self-skid accidents often occur at night due to reckless driving, slippery roads during rain, and drunk riding, according to Rachakonda police. Another major factor contributing to these accidents is the increasing number of young riders who neglect to wear helmets, which significantly raises the risk of fatal injuries. In response to these issues, Rachakonda police have implemented a proactive approach. Riders caught without helmets are encouraged to purchase and wear one immediately. This initiative not only enforces the importance of helmet use but also ensures that corrective action is taken on the spot. By combining enforcement with education, the goal is to promote safer riding habits, reduce the chances of head injuries, and encourage lasting behavioral changes among riders.
AI-driven cameras installed on roads
High-visibility enforcement operations are being consistently carried out at key intersections, main roads, and accident-prone areas across the Rachakonda Commissionerate. Repeat offenders are being flagged, and stricter penalties are being enforced. Traffic enforcement under the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) is powered by AI-driven cameras, which automatically detect violations, issue e-challans, and significantly enhance urban compliance.
The Rachakonda Traffic Police has also launched comprehensive awareness campaigns targeting various groups within the community, such as students, auto and cab drivers, delivery personnel, and the general public. These initiatives include live demonstrations, real-life testimonials from accident survivors, and interactive sessions designed to educate everyone on traffic laws and road safety measures.
