‘Serval cat’ released for public display at Nehru Zoological Park

A pair of Serval Cat, a new exotic species endemic to African Continent that can live upto 16 years in captivity was released for public display at the small cats enclosure at the Nehru Zoological Park here on Sunday. As part of Vana Mahotsav programme tree plantation was undertaken with the planting of tree saplings of Ficus and other fruit bearing and shaded giving tree saplings near the reptile house area.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. C. Suvarna, PCCF( HoFF), Telangana said that Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad is known for its rich animal collection in the open moated animal enclosures and today by adding another new species of animal “Serval Cat “raising to 195 Nos. of species into the stock. The breeding programme in the Zoo is remarkable and almost all the animal species are successfully breeding in captivity.

The Fossil Park Garden that was renovated with a variety of plant species in the model of Telangana Map was inaugurated. Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, IFS, Director Zoo Parks , Telangana and Field Director(FAC), Amrabad Tiger Reserve , Telangana M.J.Akbar, (Retd), Former Director, NZP,Hyd were present.
