SFI protests against new higher edn bill

The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Osmania University Unit, organised a protest at Osmania University Arts College on Saturday as part of the nationwide agitation against the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill–2025. Addressing the gathering, SFI Osmania University Secretary Ajay Kumar Dandu stated that the Bill is a serious attack on the autonomy of public universities and the federal nature of education, and will intensify the centralisation and commercialisation of higher education, severely impacting students from marginalised sections.

Manchala Kiran Kumar, SRF Scholar and Vice President, warned that the Bill weakens statutory regulatory bodies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), shifting powers from democratically constituted statutory bodies to executive-controlled authorities.

He cautioned that this power shift would create long-term complications, erode academic freedom and strip education of its independent identity, allowing increased political influence over institutions. DYFI State Vice President R.L. Murty expressed solidarity with the student movement and asserted that youth and students across the country will resist policies that commodify and politicise education.
