In a fresh wave of political turmoil in Andhra Pradesh, state Congress chief Y.S. Sharmila has launched a scathing attack on her brother and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of character assassination, political coercion, and financial manipulation.
Her remarks come in the wake of Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijayasai Reddy’s recent resignation from both the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and his parliamentary position, which has triggered intense speculation about internal rifts within Jagan’s political circle.
Despite declaring that he would distance himself from active politics, Vijayasai Reddy’s recent meeting with Sharmila has fueled further political intrigue. Addressing the issue, Sharmila disclosed that Vijayasai Reddy had confided in her about the difficulties he faced under Jagan’s leadership. However, she focused her attack on personal and political betrayals within her own family, particularly Jagan’s alleged attempts to wrongfully claim family assets.
In a direct attack on Jagan, Sharmila accused him of using legal means to seize her rightful share of assets, stating, “Jagan went to the extent of filing cases against me and our mother just to ensure that all shares belong to him. Indeed he pressured Vijayasai Reddy to lie, going against my father’s wishes. Even my mother, Vijayamma, was forced to sign letters refuting the truth under immense pressure.”
In one of her most damning allegations, Sharmila accused Jagan of not only orchestrating financial schemes but also orchestrating a smear campaign against her personal character. “Jagan, who recently spoke about ‘character’ and morality, seems to have forgotten the true meaning of the word. Instead of treating me as his sister and YSR’s daughter, he stooped to the lowest level, tarnishing my reputation.”
Sharmila also accused Jagan of plotting to take over the wealth of their relatives, including his own nephews and nieces. “Jagan conspired to seize the assets of his own nephew and niece. His greed knows no bounds. As YSR’s son, was it necessary for him to stoop so low?”
She questioned whether Jagan and his wife could take an oath before the Bible and confirm that they had acted truthfully. “Jagan and his wife should place their hands on the Bible and introspect on how low they have fallen. Filing cases against his own mother—what kind of person does that?”
She further attacked his governance, stating, “Where was his credibility when he played with people's lives by introducing substandard liquor? He lost all trust when he demolished Rushikonda and built a Rs.500 crore palace for himself. Jagan has no credibility—only arrogance that comes from wealth.”
Sharmila’s fiery speech has sent shockwaves through Andhra Pradesh politics, further deepening the rift within the YSR family. With Vijayasai Reddy yet to announce his next political move, speculation is rife that he may join forces with Sharmila’s Congress or even switch loyalties to the TDP-BJP-Jana Sena alliance.
