Sunita Ahuja reflects on her bond with Govinda and why, despite divorce reports, her love for him remains unmatched

Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja are once again in the spotlight, but this time, it’s not for his dance moves or on-screen charm. Reports recently surfaced claiming that Sunita has filed for divorce after 34 years of marriage, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion under Section 13(1)(i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.

In the midst of these rumours, Sunita spoke openly in an interview with Eat Travel Repeat, sharing emotional insights into her relationship with the superstar. “Mere jitna Govinda ko koi nahi jaanega, na kabhi zindagi mein jaanega. Woh, mere jaisa Govinda ko koi nahi pyaar kar sakta hai,” she said, making it clear that her connection with him runs deep, even if cracks may have emerged.

When asked which version of Govinda she misses most, Sunita, with a nostalgic smile, replied, “Purana Govinda, vapas aa jaa yaar. Mera Chi Chi, tu aaja vapas … Chi Chi, aaja mere paas.”

Govinda’s manager denies divorce reports

Reacting to the ongoing speculation, Govinda’s long-time manager, Shashi, told Hindustan Times that the couple has not separated and the issues being discussed are part of their past. “Govinda jaisa insaan kisi par haath nahi utha sakta. Cruelty jaise claims kaha se aa rahe hain? Yeh sab purani baatein hain,” Shashi said, calling the media coverage sensationalised.

He also addressed reports of court appearances. “Govinda has not appeared in court, but Sunita has also appeared only once to file the case.” He further claimed that both are still working together and focusing on their children’s futures. “Koi divorce nahi hone waala hai. Dono apne bachchon ki shaadi aur career par focus kar rahe hain.”

‘I married him because he looked like Dharmendra’

In a surprising revelation, Sunita also shared the reason she was initially drawn to Govinda — his resemblance to her teenage crush, veteran actor Dharmendra. “Mujhe baaki pasand nahi koi bhi. Jab main choti thi, mujhe sirf Dharam ji pasand the. Now, I like Shah Rukh Khan too — he’s a gentleman — but Dharam ji was my first crush,” she confessed. “Maine Govinda se shaadi isliye ki kyunki woh un jaise dikhte hain. Dono Punjabi hain.” She even recalled telling Dharmendra about it in person. “I told Dharam ji ki maine shaadi isse isliye ki because he looks a bit like you!” Sunita remembered how Govinda played a character inspired by Dharmendra in the film Sandwich, which only deepened her fondness.

Family staying grounded

Adding to the emotional weight of the situation, their son Yashvardhan Ahuja recently performed a puja at home, sharing a peaceful moment with his pet dog on Instagram. Though he didn’t mention the divorce rumours, the post added to public curiosity given the timing. While official confirmation from Govinda or Sunita remains awaited, one thing is clear — the love, however complicated, still seems to linger.
