'Silence means endorsement': KTR targets Rahul

The BRS leader alleged that the statement was not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern in which the Congress government had repeatedly made derogatory remarks about students, youth and the academic community

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday demanded that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi issue an unconditional public apology over Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's reported remarks describing engineering students as "criminal waste," alleging that the comments were deeply insulting to students, teachers and parents across the country.

In a four page letter addressed to Rahul Gandhi, KTR questioned whether the Chief Minister's remarks reflected the official position of the Congress party towards engineering students, the teaching community and the youth. He asserted that Rahul Gandhi, as the party's national leader who campaigned extensively for the Congress in Telangana and played a key role in appointing Revanth Reddy as Chief Minister, bears both political and moral responsibility for the comments.

KTR stated that Rahul Gandhi's silence on the issue amounts to tacit approval and argued that the Congress cannot distance itself from the controversy. He said the remarks had hurt the sentiments of lakhs of engineering students and their families while undermining the dignity of the engineering profession as well as the constitutional office held by the Chief Minister.

He claimed that several comments made by the Chief Minister in the past had reflected a dismissive attitude towards university students and young people in Telangana.

KTR urged Rahul Gandhi to publicly clarify the Congress party's position on students and engineers and to apologise unconditionally to engineering students, university students, teachers and youth across the country. He also called upon Rahul Gandhi to direct Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to withdraw his remarks immediately and issue an unconditional apology to all those who were offended.

Further KTR said Telangana's youth were closely watching the Congress government's conduct and would ultimately express their judgment through the democratic process. He asserted that the verdict of an aware and empowered younger generation would outlast temporary political power and urged the Congress leadership to respond responsibly to the controversy.
