Sindhu Hospitals performs first HITHOC procedure

Sindhu Hospitals successfully performed its first Hyperthermic Intrathoracic Chemotherapy (HITHOC) procedure on a 35-year-old patient with Stage IVA Type B thymoma, a rare and advanced cancer of the thymus.

The patient, who had shown a partial response to chemotherapy and had poor pulmonary function, underwent Thymectomy followed by HITHOC. Despite the extensive disease involving the left hemithorax, the surgery was completed successfully, and the patient has recovered well and is being discharged in stable condition.

The Department of Surgical Oncology headed by Dr. K.V.V.N. Raju, Department of Anesthesia headed by Dr. Venugopaland and Department of Medical Oncology headed by Dr R.V.Rao stated that thymectomy combined with HITHOC offers patients with advanced Stage IVA thymoma, the best chance for long-term disease control and, in some cases, cure. Dr. Bandi Partha Saradhi Reddy, Chairman of Sindhu Hospitals, congratulated the Departments of Surgical Oncology, Anaesthesia, and Medical Oncology for achieving this significant milestone.
