Hyderabad-based international table tennis player SFR Snehit delivered a memorable performance at the AAI 52nd Institutional Table Tennis Championships, clinching a gold, a silver and a bronze as the tournament concluded at Abhay Prashal Stadium in Indore on Tuesday.

Representing the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD), Snehit emerged as one of the standout players of the event. His singles campaign drew attention after he defeated two of India’s leading table tennis stars. He recorded a commanding 3-0 victory over India No. 3 Ankur Bhattacharjee in the pre-quarterfinals and followed it up with a composed 4-2 win against world No. 34 Manav Thakkar in the semi-finals. In the final, Snehit put up a strong fight but narrowly lost 3-4 to PSPB’s Harmeet Desai, settling for the silver medal.

In the men’s doubles event, Snehit partnered IA&AD teammate Abhimanyu Mitra to clinch the gold medal. The pair overcame West Bengal’s Ankur Bhattacharjee and Shankhadip Das 3-2 in a closely contested final after winning another tough five-game match in the semi-finals.

Snehit also played a key role in guiding IA&AD to the bronze medal in the team event, with their campaign ending in the semi-finals against eventual champions PSPB.

Coach Somnath Ghosh said, “It was an outstanding tournament for Snehit. He showcased his full potential and his fightback in the final was exceptional. It was unfortunate that he missed the title by a whisker.”

Reflecting on his performance, Snehit said, “I finally found my rhythm in a crucial tournament. I was repeatedly getting stuck at the quarterfinal stage earlier, so this feels like a real breakthrough.”
