Telangana aims to become robotic surgery hub: Rajanarsimha

The Telangana government is prioritising a comprehensive overhaul of state medical services, aiming to establish the region as a hub for advanced robotic surgery, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha announced on Sunday.

Speaking at the inauguration of a state-level multi-specialty robotic surgery workshop at TIMS Hospital in Sanath Nagar, Rajanarsimha outlined plans to introduce robotic surgical units across Government General Hospitals (GGHs) and major teaching facilities within the next six months.

Following the milestone of 1,000 successful robotic procedures at NIMS Hospital, the government plans to extend these services to MNJ Cancer Hospital, the new Osmania, Gandhi, and Niloufer hospitals, TIMS facilities, the Super Specialty Hospital in Warangal, and former district-level GGHs, he said.

The Minister further informed that the completion of the ongoing construction at TIMS and the new Osmania Hospital complex will add more than 40,000 beds to the state’s healthcare network. Rajanarsimha said TIMS Hospital has earmarked 100 dedicated beds for international patients under the state’s Medical Tourism Policy. Dedicated policies for cancer care and trauma care are also being actively implemented. In addition, 79 new dialysis centres are being established to supplement the 102 centres currently operational across the state, he added.
