Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, on Monday, addressed public concerns about the Human MetaPneumoVirus (HMPV), reassuring citizens that the state government and health department are fully prepared to handle the situation.

“HMPV is not a new virus; it was first discovered in 2001 and has since been reported worldwide,” said the Health Minister. “The virus typically causes mild respiratory symptoms and spreads through droplets released when an infected person coughs or sneezes.”

The Minister acknowledged reports of a rise in HMPV cases in China but emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored in other states and countries. He assured that the state health department is in regular coordination with the central health department to stay updated.

“There is no need to panic. It is enough to remain cautious. The state has all necessary medical facilities, and the government is prepared to face any situation,” he added. Senior health officials and district administrators have been directed to strengthen disease surveillance systems and ensure the availability of all resources.
