Telangana has recorded over 76,000 cybercrime cases between 2022 and February 2026, with total financial losses nearing Rs 4,725 crore, according to data obtained through the Right to Information Act.

Information provided by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, following an RTI application filed by the Youth for Anti-Corruption organisation with the DGP office, highlights a steady surge in cyber offences across the state.

Year-wise data shows 12,402 FIRs registered in 2022, rising to 15,546 in 2023 and sharply increasing to 23,555 in 2024. In 2025, cases stood at 21,639, while 2,906 cases have already been recorded till February 2026, taking the total to over 76,000 cases in the four-year period.

Financial losses have also escalated significantly. Cybercriminals duped victims of Rs 254.21 crore in 2022, Rs 778.76 crore in 2023, and a massive Rs 1,909.55 crore in 2024. Losses stood at Rs 1,524.76 crore in 2025, while Rs 257.35 crore has already been reported in the first two months of 2026.

Responding to the data, Youth for Anti-Corruption founder Rajendra Palnati stressed the urgent need for continuous public awareness. He said the rapid growth of social media and digital transactions has given cybercriminals more opportunities to exploit innocent people using new methods.

He suggested that the government should introduce structured awareness programmes in schools, colleges and rural areas by deploying trained educators. He warned that unless cyber fraud is curbed at an early stage, people’s savings could face serious risks in the future.
