Telangana Plant blast accused Sigachi CEO arrested

Amit Raj Sinha, Managing Director and CEO of Sigachi Industries, was arrested on Saturday in connection with the deadly explosion at the company’s pharmaceutical plant in Sangareddy district, Telangana, that claimed 54 lives in June.

The case, registered against six senior officials of Sigachi Industries, identifies Sinha as accused number two. The tragic incident occurred on June 30 at the plant, when a massive blast and ensuing fire killed 54 people and left several others injured.

Following the arrest, Sinha was presented before the appropriate court and remanded to judicial custody, police officials said. In response, Sigachi Industries issued a statement confirming the FIR registration against Sinha and other officials under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “We are cooperating fully with the legal process while also ensuring that our rights under the law are respected. We will keep all concerned parties informed as and when there are meaningful developments in the case, subject to legal advisories given that the matter is subjudice,” the company said. The company assured support for the families of the deceased.
