TG Assembly Winter Session starts tomorrow

28-12-2025 12:00:00 AM

The Winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly will begin on Monday, December 29 with debates on irrigation projects inter-State river water disputes, particularly the sharing of Krishna and Godavari waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, set to dominate the proceedings.

The session is anticipated to witness intense political confrontations between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi. No sittings are scheduled for December 30, 31, and January 1 due to the New Year holidays, with proceedings resuming on January 2.

The session is expected to feature heated debates, including on the Kaleshwaram project and phone-tapping allegations. Political observers predict a charged atmosphere as the Congress seeks to consolidate its narrative on irrigation achievements while the BRS aims to regain ground.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed his Cabinet to expose what he termed as the "failures and compromises" of the previous BRS government in securing Telangana's rightful share of river waters during its 2014-2023 tenure. At a recent Ministers' meeting, Revanth Reddy emphasised the need for a detailed discussion on alleged injustices in Krishna and Godavari utilisation, illegal water diversion by Andhra Pradesh, pending approvals from the Centre, and unauthorised projects. The government plans to highlight delays in key initiatives like the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and counter BRS propaganda on the project.

In response, BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao is preparing to return to active politics by attending the session, marking his likely re-entry into the Assembly after a prolonged absence. At a meeting with senior leaders at his Erravelli farmhouse, KCR outlined plans to challenge the Congress government on water rights, alleged discrimination by the Centre in allocations, and delays in projects under the current regime. He criticised the Congress for betraying Telangana's interests and instructed party cadres to organise large public meetings post-session to mobilise support, especially in southern Telangana.

Few ordinances relating to reorganisation of GHMC limits and some bills are likely to be introduced in the assembly sessions. The assembly is likely to discuss how to go about the BC reservation quota for MPTC and ZPTC polls.
