TG to commence 6,000-km road projects under HAM

Metro India News | Hyderabad : Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Sunday announced that the Telangana government will soon commence construction of over 6,000 km of roads under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) at an estimated cost of Rs 13,000 crore. He stated that construction will begin shortly as the monsoon season comes to an end, with the corridors designed on par with National Highways.

Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, along with Cabinet colleague Vakiti Srihari and MLA Madhusudhan Reddy, laid foundation stones for HAM road developments and high-level bridge projects worth roughly Rs 200 crore in the Devarakadra constituency of Mahabubnagar district. Following the event, he inspected ongoing ghat road works at the Kurumurthy Temple and held a progress review meeting.

Addressing the media, the Minister lashed out at former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for neglecting irrigation infrastructure in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district and failing to complete the crucial Palamuru-Rangareddy project. Highlighting the State's fiscal pressures, Venkat Reddy noted that Telangana was formed with a surplus budget of Rs 16,000 crore, but the previous BRS regime accumulated a total debt burden of Rs 8.21 lakh crore.The Minister disclosed that the current Congress government pays nearly Rs 6,000 crore monthly in interest obligations, which has restricted the State's eligibility for key central grants. He added that around Rs 50,000 crore was borrowed off-budget through special corporations like Palamuru and Mission Bhagiratha.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to regional irrigation, the Minister announced that Rs 560 crore has been deposited into the District Collector’s account for land acquisition under the Uddandapur project.

He stated that the Congress administration accepts full responsibility for filling the Karivena reservoir and completing the overall Palamuru-Rangareddy project.
