Minister for transport and BC welfare Ponnam Prabhakar announced on Friday that new ration cards will be issued from January 26. He said that 2 crore 81 lakh people in Telangana already have 90 lakh ration cards.

He criticized the opposition parties for deliberately playing politics over public administration. He clarified that the old ration cards will not be removed. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that new ration cards will be issued based on the caste survey.

The list of families without ration cards prepared based on the caste census survey will be sent to the district collectors and the GHMC commissioner for field inspection. The government has issued orders making the MPDO at the mandal level and the Municipal Commissioner at the ULB responsible for this entire process. The government has decided to make the Additional Collector (Revenue) or GCSO as the supervisors at the district level.
