Timely brain surgery saves 25 year old at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet

In an instance of timely intervention, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet on Thursday successfully removed a complex brain tumor from a 25-year-old man from Khammam, who had been experiencing rapidly worsening hearing loss and imbalance, symptoms that initially appeared minor but soon became critical. The patient was diagnosed with Acoustic Schwannoma, a benign yet potentially dangerous tumor located deep at the cerebellopontine (CP) angle, dangerously pressing against the brainstem.

If left untreated, such tumors can lead to severe neurological damage, including facial paralysis, permanent hearing loss or life-threatening complications. After a high-resolution MRI confirmed the condition, the CARE Hospitals team opted for a high-precision right retromastoid suboccipital surgical approach to completely excise the tumor.

The procedure was led by Dr. Bhavani Prasad Ganji, Senior Neurosurgeon, supported by Dr. M. Lakshmi Prashanth Kumar, HOD-Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and expert OT and ward staff. The patient recovered steadily, regained balance and mobility and was discharged within 3 days. Dr. Bhavani Prasad Ganji described the case as an example of how timely intervention could change the entire outcome.

Symptoms like one-sided hearing loss or imbalance may seem minor but can point to serious underlying issues, he pointed out. He also opined that with the patient approaching the hospital early, the doctors were able to completely remove the tumor and protect vital brain functions.

Applauding the clinical team, Praveen Kumar Edla, Chief Operating Officer, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, stated that time is a very critical factor in neuro cases and added that this successful surgery reflected the hospital’s commitment to rapid diagnosis, advanced care, and coordinated teamwork.
