TTD plans UPI payment facility at laddu counters

In a move aimed at making the distribution of the famous Tirumala laddu prasadam quicker and more convenient, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is considering the introduction of direct UPI-based payments at laddu counters. The proposed system is expected to significantly reduce queues and waiting time for devotees.

At present, thousands of devotees who complete darshan stand in long lines at separate counters to collect laddu prasadam. To manage the heavy rush, TTD had earlier introduced kiosk machines where devotees can make digital payments through UPI and obtain slips, which are then exchanged for laddus at the counters.

While the kiosks have helped to some extent, they have also led to new challenges. Crowds often gather around the machines, and occasional technical glitches create delays. Moreover, devotees are required to stand in two separate queues, first at the kiosk for payment and then again at the laddu counter, resulting in inconvenience and loss of time.

To address these issues, TTD is now exploring a more streamlined approach. Under the new proposal, QR code boards will be installed directly at every laddu counter. Devotees can simply approach the counter, scan the displayed QR code with their mobile phones, and complete payment instantly through UPI applications. Once the payment is confirmed, laddus will be handed over immediately.

Officials believe this system will eliminate the need for kiosks altogether and enable faster movement of queues. It will also spare devotees the trouble of carrying cash or searching for change while purchasing prasadam.

Sources indicate that a leading bank has already expressed willingness to partner with TTD to provide the necessary digital payment infrastructure for the initiative. TTD is reportedly planning to implement the system on a pilot basis at a few selected counters first. Based on the results and feedback from devotees, the facility may be expanded to all laddu counters across Tirumala.

However, TTD is yet to issue an official announcement regarding the rollout of the new payment mechanism. If implemented successfully, the direct UPI payment facility is expected to make the laddu distribution process smoother, faster, and more devotee-friendly, further enhancing the overall experience of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine.
