Police in Mulugu district, Telangana, arrested 20 Maoists in various locations between May 16 and 17 during vehicle checks, search operations, and patrols. Among those arrested were one division committee member and five area committee members, according to Mulugu District Superintendent of Police Shabarish P.

The arrests followed large-scale search operations launched by CRPF and Chhattisgarh police in the Karregutta hills along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. Intelligence reports indicated that Maoists had taken shelter in Karregutta but were fleeing in small groups to different locations. To prevent their entry into Mulugu, police strengthened surveillance and successfully apprehended them.

The arrested Maoists were allegedly involved in multiple criminal incidents, including ambushes on police and CRPF personnel and killings of civilians accused of being police informers. Police seized three 5.56 mm INSAS rifles, four 7.62 mm SLR rifles, one .303 rifle, four 8 mm rifles, two live grenades, and magazines from them.

Authorities also discovered that the Maoists had planted IEDs in the Karregutta forest area, spanning multiple police jurisdictions in Telangana and Chhattisgarh, aiming to prevent security forces from entering and establish a Maoist guerrilla base. Security forces continue to monitor the situation closely.
