The sequel to one of Netflix’s most talked about series is finally here after three years and its twists won’t disappoint, although its not as fast paced as the original. This season focusses on the protagonist’s unrelenting pursuit to track down those who started the survival game using the ₩45.6 billion prize money he had won from the previous games.

Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), aka Player 456, takes part in the games again, but this time with the purpose of putting an end to it.

The new series has seven episodes, oscillating between tense moments, a hero’s hope to triumph and largely a depiction of what lengths humans can fall to to when things go beyond desperate. Gi-hun uses his wealth to find the location of the mysterious island where the games are held along with hiring criminals to locate those associated with them.

However, he isn’t the only one looking for them. Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), the detective who was trying to find his brother in season 1 is also on the job, teaming up with fishermen to find the island. Eventually, the boh join forces for their end goal.

Season 2’s first few episodes delve into the characters that make Squid Game what it is like the salesman who lured people into participating and the guards. When the games finally begin, we are thrown into the familiar world of green tracksuits and armed guards in pink attire.

What will keep people hooked are the new bunch of characters that are introduced this time, whether it is an expecting young mother, a trans woman and a mother and child, each who have signed up due to their own compulsions. And it ends in a cliffhanger, promising that there will be a season 3.
