NTR District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha has instructed the concerned officials to take steps to complete the registration process within a week to provide two lakh solar power connections as part of the long term ambition of lighting up every house in the district.

On Friday, the Collector held a video conference with the concerned officials from his office in the Collectorate on the registration process of solar power connections through the Prime Minister's Suryagarh scheme. The Collector said that a target has been set to provide solar power connections to two lakh households in the district through the Suryagarh scheme.

In this regard, 45 thousand people have registered their names for solar power connections so far. Out of this, 35 thousand are in rural areas and 10 thousand are in urban areas. Municipal officials should pay special attention to speed up the registration process in urban areas, he instructed.

He called upon the officials to explain to the people that they can get free solar power with low investment through high subsidies and also asked the officials take steps to achieve the target. For a 3 kW solar panel worth Rs. 2 lakh, self-help groups belonging to OC and BC communities can set up on the roof of their houses with a subsidy of Rs. 78 thousand.

He said that the beneficiary will have to contribute Rs 20,000 and the remaining amount will be sanctioned as a loan by banks at low interest rates. He said that SC and ST groups will also have the opportunity to get solar power connections with full subsidy. He said that the participation of women from self-help groups and government employees is key in achieving the target.

He said that the authorities are ready to provide all possible assistance to achieve the target within a week and that anyone who has their own house and electricity connection can easily register through www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in.  The Collector also directed the officials to create awareness among the people to register with their help by contacting the nearest secretariat or electricity office.

DRDA District Project Director K. Srinivasa Rao, District Electricity Department SE A. Muralimohan, Municipal Commissioners of the district, and officials from the Municipal Electricity Departments participated in the video conference.
