Former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar has made a series of pointed political observations on Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, questioning the ideological consistency behind the Jana Sena chief’s political journey and alliance choices.
Speaking in an interview to a YouTube channel, Undavalli said he personally holds a positive opinion about Pawan Kalyan, but described his political evolution as driven more by circumstances than ideology. He revealed that he had met Pawan only once and had intended to discuss the issue of Andhra Pradesh bifurcation with him, but claimed the actor-turned-politician did not show much interest in the subject.
Undavalli Arun Kumar recalled Pawan Kalyan’s earlier statements about wanting to join Naxalite movements during his younger days and pointed out that the Jana Sena Party had aligned with Left parties during the 2019 elections. Against that backdrop, he argued that Pawan’s later alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party was not ideological but purely political.
According to Undavalli, the Deputy Chief Minister may have shifted politically after facing humiliation during the previous YSRCP regime. He alleged that Pawan’s decision to openly support N. Chandrababu Naidu when the latter was lodged in Rajamahendravaram Central Jail reflected a strong determination to politically defeat Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at any cost.
In one of his sharper remarks, Undavalli stated that he does not believe Sanatana Dharma has truly influenced Pawan Kalyan, arguing instead that the Jana Sena chief appears more inclined toward communist thought. “He has read communist ideology more deeply and speaks emotionally and aggressively on every issue,” Undavalli observed, adding that he would question Pawan directly about his views on Sanatana Dharma if they met again.
At the same time, the former MP acknowledged that Pawan Kalyan today occupies the stature of a Chief Minister-level leader and plays a decisive role in the present coalition government in Andhra Pradesh.
Undavalli also commented on the recent Tirumala laddu adulteration controversy, cautioning political leaders against using highly sensitive and provocative terms such as beef in public discourse. He suggested that legal institutions should be allowed to handle such matters independently instead of escalating them politically.
