BRS leader slams Centre over Sircilla Mega Cluster Delay

The BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao has strongly condemned the BJP-led Central Government for what he described as a “deliberate and discriminatory delay” in sanctioning a Mega Power Loom Cluster for Sircilla, terming it a clear act of political vendetta against Telangana and its weaving community.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh, KTR accused the Centre of murdering the spirit of cooperative federalism by keeping the Sircilla proposal pending for over a decade, despite the region fulfilling all eligibility norms under the Comprehensive Powerloom Cluster Development Scheme (CPCDS).

KTR pointed out that the demand for a Mega Power Loom Cluster for Sircilla is long-standing and has been consistently pursued for the last twelve years through multiple representations and personal meetings with successive Union Ministers. He recalled discussions with leaders ranging from late Arun Jaitley and Smriti Irani to the present Minister, and noted that even Central inspection teams had officially confirmed Sircilla’s eligibility. “If merit is not the issue, what is the reason for this continued neglect?” he questioned, alleging open discrimination against Telangana.

Describing Sircilla as the backbone of Telangana’s textile economy, KTR highlighted that the town has over 30,000 power looms and provides livelihood to thousands of weaver families. He criticised the Centre for approving Mega Power Loom Clusters in other States with far lower capacity and workforce, while denying the same to Sircilla despite its proven strengths.

KTR further stated that during the BRS government under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the State had completed all preparatory requirements, including land allocation, power and water supply, single-window clearances and incentives. Keeping the proposal pending without any technical or financial objections, he said, reflects administrative arrogance.

Warning of serious consequences, KTR said the Centre’s inaction, coupled with the Congress government’s failures in Telangana, has pushed the textile sector back into crisis, with reports of weavers’ suicides re-emerging.
