Uttam announces mega job mela @ Kodad

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday announced that a Mega Job Mela will be organised at Kodad on Saturday, September 19, with an ambitious plan to bring 200 to 250 companies and provide employment opportunities to thousands of unemployed youth.

The Minister disclosed this while reviewing arrangements for the proposed job mela at the Secretariat. Kodad MLA, N. Padmavathi Reddy, Suryapet District Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar, officials and representatives involved in organising the programme participated in the meeting.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said unemployment among educated youth was one of the most serious challenges facing society and stressed that elected representatives and government agencies had a responsibility to create opportunities for them.

“Every day we see the difficulties faced by educated unemployed youth and their parents. As an MLA, MP and now a Minister, I have always tried to help young people secure employment. The objective of this job mela is to provide some relief to families by creating genuine employment opportunities,” he said.

Recalling the Mega Job Mela organised at Huzurnagar in October last year, the Minister said it had received an overwhelming response. Around 200 companies participated, nearly 40,000 unemployed youth registered, and about 20,000 candidates appeared for interviews. Nearly 3,000 candidates either secured jobs or were shortlisted for subsequent rounds of interviews, he said.

Encouraged by its success, Uttam Kumar Reddy said he had decided to organise a similar large-scale employment drive at Kodad.The Minister said unemployed youth from Kodad, Huzurnagar, Suryapet and Thungathurthi Assembly constituencies should be extensively mobilised.

Youth from the rest of the erstwhile Nalgonda district and neighbouring Khammam district would also be encouraged to participate. Special teams would reach out to engineering colleges, polytechnic colleges, degree colleges and ITIs, particularly final-year students, and invite them to attend the recruitment drive.

The Minister said efforts are being made to bring 200 to 250 companies from Hyderabad, the erstwhile Nalgonda district, Khammam and other areas. Responsibilities should be clearly divided among teams for coordinating with companies, mobilising candidates and managing the event.

The C.C. Reddy Convent at Kodad has been finalised as the venue. The Minister said its 32 rooms could accommodate interview panels of individual companies, while arrangements would be made on the ground and adjoining areas to accommodate a large number of additional recruiters. He directed the organisers to make comprehensive arrangements for registration, interviews, parking, food and other facilities.

Food should be provided to all participating candidates irrespective of the turnout, he said. The recruitment process would begin in the morning and, if necessary, continue into the evening until candidates who had turned up were given an opportunity to attend interviews. Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasised that the Mega Job Mela was being organised as a government programme following prescribed protocols, and directed officials of all concerned departments to participate actively and treat its success as a collective responsibility.
