Uttam Kumar Reddy bats for green mobility

Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy unveiled the new Tata Sierra EV at a programme in Hyderabad on Friday and reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to accelerating the transition towards electric vehicles and environmentally sustainable mobility.

Congratulating Tata Motors and Jasper Tata on the launch, Uttam Kumar Reddy described Tata as one of India’s most trusted and respected brands, with a longstanding reputation for reliability, innovation, safety and quality.

Recalling his personal association with the brand, the Minister said he had used a Tata Safari for several years and was familiar with the reliability and performance of Tata vehicles.

“The new Sierra is another proud addition to the Tata family. It combines the legacy of an iconic Indian automobile with the technology and environmental consciousness required for the future,” he said, wishing the company great success with its latest offering.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the automobile industry was undergoing a historic transformation, with electric, connected and sustainable mobility increasingly shaping its future. He appreciated Tata Motors for playing a pioneering role in developing India’s electric vehicle ecosystem and making electric mobility accessible to a wider section of consumers.

“Electric mobility will help reduce air pollution, lower dependence on fossil fuels, improve energy security and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future. The transition to electric vehicles is both an environmental necessity and a major economic opportunity for India,” he said.

The Minister stated that the Telangana Government was actively promoting the adoption of electric vehicles through incentives, including exemption from life tax and registration-related charges for eligible electric vehicles. These measures were intended to reduce the initial cost of EV ownership and encourage more citizens, commercial operators and institutions to choose cleaner modes of transport.

He said the Government was also working to expand public charging infrastructure across Hyderabad and other urban centres in partnership with TGREDCO, power distribution companies and private operators. Charging facilities were being encouraged at public parking areas, commercial establishments, transport hubs and other strategic locations to provide convenient and reliable access to motorists.

The State was also encouraging the introduction of electric buses in public transport, electrification of government and commercial fleets, battery-swapping facilities and the development of charging networks along important roads and highways.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana aimed to emerge as a major hub for the manufacture of electric vehicles, batteries, automotive components and charging equipment. The Government would continue supporting investment, research, innovation, skill development and employment generation across the green-mobility sector.

“We want Telangana to remain at the forefront of technological advancement while ensuring that economic growth goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility. We look forward to working closely with automobile manufacturers and all other stakeholders to build a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Telangana,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy congratulated Tata Motors, Jasper Tata, their management and employees and wished the new Tata Sierra great success in the Indian automobile market.

Senior representatives of Tata Motors and other dignitaries attended the programme. The organisers felicitated the Minister and thanked him for participating in the launch.
