01-10-2025 12:00:00 AM

Senior IPS officer V.C. Sajjanar officially took charge as the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, on Tuesday at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) in Banjara Hills.

A 1996-batch IPS officer from the former Andhra Pradesh cadre, later allocated to Telangana, Sajjanar brings nearly three decades of experience across critical policing and administrative roles. Known for his decisive leadership, he has served in several high-profile positions throughout his career.

Sajjanar began as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Jangaon, Warangal district, and Pulivendula in Kadapa district. He later became Superintendent of Police (SP) in key districts, including Nalgonda, Kadapa, Guntur, Warangal, and Medak. His notable assignments include SP of the Crime Investigation Department (Economic Offences Wing), SP of OCTOPUS (Organisation for Countering Terrorist Operations), and Commandant of the 6th Battalion of APSP in Mangalagiri.

After promotions to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Inspector General (IG) of Police, he worked in the Intelligence Department until March 2018. He then served as Commissioner of Police for Cyberabad from March 2018 to August 2021. Following this, Sajjanar took charge as Managing Director of TSRTC in September 2021, before returning to policing in his new role as Hyderabad Police Commissioner.

Officials and colleagues welcomed him, expressing confidence that his experience and strategic approach would strengthen law enforcement, enhance public safety, and effectively address emerging security challenges in the city.

Sajjanar’s appointment comes at a time when Hyderabad faces growing challenges in urban policing, cybercrime, and law and order, highlighting the importance of seasoned leadership at the city’s helm.

Hyderabad police to explore AI use in investigations

Soon after assuming charge, newly appointed Commissioner V C Sajjanar said that Hyderabad Police will explore the use of AI in investigations. "Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the buzzword across the world now, with many offices and organisations adopting it. Hyderabad Police will also start working on how to use AI, including drones, in various areas of policing," he told reporters here. "Already, other police forces are using drones.

We will study how effective they are. Many companies are manufacturing drones, and we will tie up with them to see how they can be utilised," Sajjanar added. This approach will focus on law and order, traffic and road safety, protection of women and children, adoption of AI-based technology, prevention of cyber and financial crimes, 24/7 citizen services, and the welfare of police personnel, he added.
