A resounding tribute to Telugu language and culture unfolded in Vijayawada as the 6th World Telugu Writers’ Mahasabha commenced with grandeur. The event, a convergence of literary luminaries and enthusiasts, was inaugurated by Former Chief Justice of India, Justice NV Ramana, whose heartfelt address celebrated Telugu as a language that embodies beauty, music, and poetry.

The stages for the event were named after towering figures who contributed to the enrichment of the language: Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, Dasaradhi, and Acharya Biruduraju Ramaraju.

Addressing the audience, Justice Ramana extolled the richness of Telugu, describing it as “a melodious language spoken by over 100 million people.” He emphasized its inherent poetic charm and the unique way even everyday conversations in Telugu resonate with beauty. “Without a language, people are like orphans, bereft of history and identity. Telugu is not just a medium of communication; it is the soul of our heritage,” he remarked passionately.

Justice Ramana warned against the commercialization and politicization of the language, urging society to act as stewards of its preservation. “Our mother tongue must never fall prey to political or commercial exploitation. Safeguarding Telugu is integral to our identity and greatness as a people,” he asserted.

In his address, Justice Ramana invoked the contributions of Telugu stalwarts such as Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), Vishwanatha Satyanarayana, Ghantasala, and Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna, urging families to instill a sense of pride in the language among younger generations. “Our cultural legacy rests in the hands of today’s parents. Teach your children the beauty and history of Telugu so they carry it forward,” he appealed.

Highlighting successful language preservation models like Tamil Nadu, Justice Ramana called for collective action from governments, media, and society to promote Telugu. He urged voters to support leaders committed to nurturing the language and fostering its growth. “Governments must prioritize the development of Telugu. Let us elect those who have a vision for protecting our mother tongue,” he emphasized.

The Mahasabha also paid homage to Potti Sriramulu, the stalwart whose sacrifice led to the formation of Andhra Pradesh. The stages named after luminaries served as a reminder of the profound contributions made by individuals in literature, journalism, and linguistics.

As the first day concluded, the event left a deep impression, inspiring the attendees to celebrate and safeguard their linguistic and cultural identity. The Mahasabha continues to stand as a powerful reminder that Telugu is not just a language but a living legacy that unites over 100 million speakers worldwide.

The 6th World Telugu Writers’ Mahasabha underscores the urgent need to embrace and protect the Telugu language amid global influences. Justice Ramana’s poignant words encapsulated the sentiment: “Telugu is the melody of our hearts and the poetry of our soul. Let us preserve it, promote it, and pass it on to the generations to come.”
