Andhra Pradesh will mark a major milestone in its digital transformation journey with the groundbreaking ceremony of a $15 billion, 1,000 MW hyperscale AI data centre in Visakhapatnam on Monday morning.

The project supported by global players such as Google Cloud and AdaniConneX is poised to position Vizag at the forefront of India’s artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure ecosystem. The ceremony, scheduled for 9:30 AM, is expected to signal the formal launch of one of the country’s largest AI-focused digital infrastructure projects.

Officials say the data centre will serve as a high-capacity backbone for AI workloads, cloud services, and data processing, catering to both domestic and global demand. Beyond infrastructure, the project is projected to generate significant employment, spur ancillary industries, and attract further investments into Andhra Pradesh’s fast-growing tech landscape.

The initiative aligns with the broader development vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, whose government has been aggressively pursuing investments in advanced technology sectors. With policy emphasis on “speed of doing business” and investor facilitation, the state has been positioning itself as a competitive destination for global technology firms.

Industry experts note that hyperscale data centres are critical to powering AI innovation, and the Vizag project could place Andhra Pradesh on the global map for digital infrastructure. As India’s demand for AI capabilities expands rapidly, such large-scale investments are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s technological future.

The April 28 groundbreaking is thus not just a ceremonial event, but a strategic step toward establishing Vizag as a key hub in India’s AI-driven growth story.
