The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on an apartment complex in Banjara Hills for wasting drinking water and allowing it to flow onto a public road.

Acting on a complaint, officials from the Banjara Hills Ward under Jubilee Hills Circle of O&M Division-XV inspected Sri Sairam’s West End Apartment in Anand Nagar Colony. The complaint alleged that water from the premises was being discharged onto the road, causing wastage.

During the inspection, officials found that the apartment’s water supply was scheduled for the following day. However, water had been released onto the road while cleaning the overhead storage tanks. Authorities stated that discharging potable water onto roads amounts to misuse of a valuable resource and violates water conservation norms.

Following the inspection, HMWSSB levied a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the consumer and warned that repeated violations could lead to disconnection of water supply services. The Water Board urged residents to use water responsibly and ensure that tank-cleaning activities do not result in wastage. Officials said complaints related to water misuse and illegal discharge would be acted upon promptly.
