In a historic move towards women’s empowerment in the mining sector, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has announced that women employees currently working as General Assistants or Badili Workers will now have the opportunity to be appointed as Operators of heavy machinery in Opencast Mines.
This landmark initiative, taken under the directives of C&MD N. Balram, aims to promote equal opportunities, empower women in mining, and make effective use of human resources. On Saturday, Singareni management issued a circular to all mines and departments to formally invite applications. This marks the first time in SCCL’s history that women will be offered such roles in opencast mining operations.
As per eligibility criteria, applicants must be women employees currently serving as General Assistants or Badili Workers, be below 35 years of age, have passed at least 7th Class, be physically fit and hold a valid two-wheeler or four-wheeler driving license. Preference will be given to candidates who obtained their license before August 2024.
Eligible employees must fill out the prescribed application format and submit it to the respective Mine Manager, Department Head, or General Manager. Applications will be reviewed by a committee led by the General Manager (CPP), which will shortlist candidates who meet the required standards.
The shortlisted candidates will then undergo intensive training at the Telangana Institute of Driving Education and Skills, Sircilla, in Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) operations. Upon successful completion of training and the subsequent selection test, they will be appointed as EP Operator Trainee Category-5
SCCL management has expressed confidence that this initiative will set a new benchmark for inclusivity and workforce empowerment in India’s coal sector. By opening operator roles to women, the company reinforces its commitment to progressive policies and to creating a more diverse and empowered workforce.
