Youth, backbone of developed India: Guv Shiv Pratap Shukla

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that strong and empowered youth are the backbone of a developed India, stressing that promoting a sporting culture is key to nation-building. He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the Prime Minister’s Sansad Khel Mahotsav–2026 under the leadership of MP D. K. Aruna at the district stadium.

Highlighting the importance of sports, the Governor said they play a crucial role in personality development, discipline, teamwork, and resilience. He noted that the energy and determination of youth lay a strong foundation for national progress. Events like these help bring rural talent onto a common platform and contribute to inclusive development. Initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India Movement are instrumental in identifying grassroots talent and strengthening the sports ecosystem.

BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao said the future of the nation lies in strong youth and underlined the role of sports in building both physical and mental fitness. He urged parents to encourage children to participate in sports alongside academics, noting that it reduces stress and promotes a healthy lifestyle. He also expressed concern over rising drug abuse among youth and said sports offer a constructive path.

MP D. K. Aruna emphasized that poverty should not become a barrier for aspiring athletes. She said the Khel Mahotsav aims to encourage rural youth to excel at national and international levels. Citing inspiring examples, she called upon young people to pursue sports with dedication, assuring continued support and more such initiatives at the grassroots level.
