460 booked for drunk driving in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two-day special enforcement drive against drunken driving on December 12 and 13, as part of efforts to strengthen road safety across the city. During the intensive checks, a total of 460 motorists were caught driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

According to officials, the majority of offenders were two-wheeler riders, accounting for 350 cases. This was followed by 85 drivers of four-wheelers and other vehicles, while 25 cases involved three-wheelers.

The blood alcohol concentration (BAC) analysis revealed varying levels of intoxication among the offenders. As many as 98 drivers recorded BAC levels between 30 and 50, while 185 drivers were found in the 51 to 100 range. Another 99 cases fell in the 101 to 150 category, and 48 drivers had BAC levels between 151 and 200. Alarmingly, 16 motorists were booked with BAC levels of 201 to 250, 10 drivers were in the 251 to 300 range, and four drivers recorded BAC levels above 300.

According to officials, the department is following a zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving and warned that such special drives will continue in the coming days. Commuters have been urged to cooperate with the traffic police and avoid driving after consuming alcohol to prevent accidents and save lives.
